Biological Medicine
Biological Medicine is the description
of the philosophy of care that is at the heart of Sojourns’
practice. It uses the ‘logic’ of the body’s
signs and symptoms to unravel the causes of disease
and acknowledges the person as an integral part of their
environment.
Some of the basic tenets of Biological
Medicine include the following:
- Real health means balance; the ability to interact
with our environment to learn and grow
- Symptoms are evidence of the body's efforts to
restore balance; to regulate itself and neutralize
the factors that cause disease
- Relieving symptoms, whether by nutritional intervention
or bodywork or medication, is only a small part of
the journey to health
- Real healing requires the strengthening of the
body's life force by removing blockages, relieving
toxic load and improving metabolism
Biological Medicine is also a description
of tools and protocols for assessment of the patient’s
health status. While no one individual tool is essential;
many are valuable. At Sojourns we offer a broad spectrum
of tools allowing a thorough exploration of the client’s
internal environment, ability to adapt to external environmental
influences, and underlying causes of imbalance.
These protocols and tools enable us to:
- Find blockages
- Evaluate toxic load
- Develop an understanding of the deepest causes of
the ill health
Biological Medicine Assessment tools
include:
- Live blood cell analysis: looking at a drop of
blood under a microscope to learn about the vitality
of the individual cells, how they interact, and how
their structure has adapted to the internal environment
- Computerized regulation thermography: evaluation
of the capacity of the body’s systems to respond
to change in the external environment. A healthy body
system can react by regulating its temperature very
precisely.
- Biological terrain assessment: measurement of the
pH, resistance and conductivity of blood, saliva and
urine to discover acid-base balance, trace mineral
status and oxidative stress levels
- Heart rate variability monitoring: an evaluation
of the balance between the sympathetic and parasympathetic
nervous systems
- Electro dermal screening: using changes in skin
resistance to evaluate diagnostic and treatment protocols
- Blood chemistries, imaging techniques and functional
lab tests
Note that all of the assessment tools listed above
(except heart rate variability monitoring) are currently
available at Sojourns.

supplements, homeopathic remedies, western medications)
